Mr. Blacks first originated in Blacks Comics #1 in March of 1938. He was already as unpopular and washed up as he is today! Well folks, it only got worse from there as Mr. Blacks sidekcick Montgomery Moe (AKA Montgomery Joe, AKA Jimmy) joined the force in late 1942 to give Mr. Black's a reason to make snappy comments without appearing insane. Montgomery was dropped from the lineup twenty years later for unknown reasons. Well, Mr. Blacks is still around today, although he has changed quite a bit in the process, as you can see from this timeline:
